Dancing Snakes, Optic Nerves, and Art




These are not gifs or videos. So why do they look like they’re moving..?? 


On a related note, great artists are able to create illusions of reality (and unreality!) using all types of media, such as paint, clay, metal, pixels, or pencils.

Whether it’s the hyper-realism of someone like Paul Cadden (that’s a drawing!)


… a surrealist painter like Emmy Bridgwater,






…or an impressionist like Monet, artists look to interpret and recreate reality through their work. You could say they were creating a type of optical illusion.
