#ChooseKind

Mrs. Abercrombie and I had an opportunity to hear R. J. Palacio present to the students of Greenwich Academy this afternoon, and she. was. awesome.

wonder smallIf you haven’t read her book, Wonder, then you should drop what you’re doing and get yourself a copy of it right now. But beyond the story itself, Palacio’s presentation highlighted the theme of “Choose Kind” that is one of the main ideas of Auggie’s tale. She shared letters, pictures, videos, and emails that she’s received from people all over the country, many of whom, like Auggie, have craniofacial differences. Her book has helped readers learn about these types of differences while also empowering them to stand up to bullying and unkindness.

If you are interested in learning more, you can check out the Children’s Craniofacial Association website here and the #ChooseKind Tumblr here. And please remember to “Choose Kind”.
